Garswood Hall Bowling Club is a private members club at Bryn, just off the A49 out of Ashton-in-Makerfield going to Bryn / Wigan turn right at Garage the club is just 100 yards down the road on the right, this as been a very successful bowling club for over 100 years and still is today with 17 teams playing all most seven days a week on two greens,the new club is only two years old

This is the new club, 2002 to 20??

 

This is a private members club left for us to look after for the future the greens are over 100 years old the first club on this site was Garswood Hall Miners Institute 1893 this lasted for 65 years until the mines closed in 1958,[it was also the first library in Ashton books was still in the club upto 1974,] In the spring of 1959 a new club was formed Garswood Hall bowling club that as lasted on the present site for 47 years the first club was the old Bowling Pavilion lovingly called the SHACK or STUTE 

With good management a new club was built on the same site in 1974 after a hard start and hard work by Mr Brian Lowe [President] and some members the greens and grounds where secured as you see them to-day in 2002 another new club was built and with good management this should last for ever as a top class Bowling Club as the Greens, club, and land, all belongs to the future Members of the club to look after,

 

Objectives and Membership of the Club

The provision of Crown Green Bowls facilities for the recreation, leisure and social needs of the public, with the objective of improving the quality of life through active participation in the sport of Crown Green Bowling for all members including juniors.

Any person may become a member of the club by completing an application form signed by two referees and the correct membership fee which will then be vetted by the Committee.

The club at the present day boast’s a membership of nearly 900 members including junior members who are encouraged to bowl on Saturday morning by our own qualified instructors who underwent a three day course and where certified by an examination from the Lancashire Crown Green Bowling Association.

Social Aspects

The club has excellent facilities for social events and is used at week ends for bingo on Saturday and Sunday evenings. There is also a large screen and the club has sky T.V. and all televised sporting events are well attended with free refreshments on some occasions.

There are [ Members, Children,and O.A.P.] parties throughout the year including Christmas and New Year.

The club also welcomes other organisations for their functions or parties and can provide the necessary refreshments,there is a well equipped bar with a wide range of beers and fine wines and spirits.
